The Cupertino-based tech giants announced the latest and significant iOS 16 iPhone update. You will get some exciting and enhanced features like wallpaper customizations, the ability to use lock screen widgets, improved messaging applications, etc.

These iPhones will have the iOS 15 as the last software update. This applies to the iPod Touch 7th-gen as well.

  • Next Generation of CarPlay

The initial phase of WWDC 2023 was not only about software updates but also included snippets of hardware upgrades. One such hardware upgrade with the iOS 16 update is the deeper CarPlay integration. 

CarPlay will not provide multiple-screen content within the vehicle. Users can multipurpose the CarPlay functions like radio control, speed rendering, temperature, fuel level checking, etc. Users will also be able to experience ultimate driving with gauge customizations. 

  • Safety Check

This Safety Check feature of iOS 16 aims to help domestic violence and abuse victims. Enabling these features will allow the user to cut ties with the abusive member like message accessibility and location sharing. 

  • Enhanced Parental Controls

The Parental Control feature is not a new concept for smartphones and iPhones. But, the updated Parental Control functions have many new and easy-to-use practical options. Users will be able to make changes in the Parental Control settings without going to the device Settings. 

  • MySports 

If you are an avid sports fanatic and rely on Apple News for information, you would be happy to know that with the latest iOS 16 software update, you can now personalize your Sports news feed. You will get instant updates about your favorite teams and sports. Unfortunately, this feature is available only in 4 nations. 

  • Apple Pay gets a new Pay Later feature.

Buy Now, Pay Later is a payment mode that is trending right now. And Apple has decided to add Pay Later features to its Apple Pay wallet. Apple Pay users can now make safe credit payments. This feature enables users to make payments in four installments over six weeks. 

What’s more interesting is that there are no additional fees or interest for this Pay Later feature. Additionally, users will get detailed receipts and tracking IDs directly from their Wallet App with the new Order Tracking feature. 

  • Customizable Lock Screen Widgets. 

With iOS 16, the iPhone lock screen will become more personalized. Users can set custom lock screen images with additional changes to the look and style of the picture. Users can embed custom wallpapers with widgets on the lock screen. 

Furthermore, the Lock Screen gallery feature enables users to get notifications of special occasions and celebrations. There will be multiple Lock Screen features where users can change the wallpaper with just a swipe. Live weather wallpaper allows users to track the weather throughout the day. 

Video support with Live Text feature and Visual Look Up. 

iOS 16 will allow the users to pause the video chat and do live Text on the frame. Live Text also features quick currency conversion, text translation, and many more while on a video frame. 

The Visual Look Up feature lets users tap and drag the images’ subject and drop it in other apps. It can also seemingly identify statues, birds, and insects in the picture. 

  • Enhanced Messaging App

Messaging App on iPhones will get three new noteworthy features with the iOS 16 update:

  1. Users can edit already sent messages.
  2. Users can undo a sent message.
  3. Users can mark the read messages as “unread.”

Users can also retrieve recently deleted messages.

SharePlay is another feature that comes into the Messaging App. Users can sync content like songs or movies in the background while chatting or texting with this feature. They can even control the shared playback.

Improved dictation will allow an easy switch between dictation and typing. 

  • New tools for an Email app.

Users will be able to schedule emails and even cancel them before it is delivered to the recipient’s inbox. If the user forgets to add attachments or images, the App will detect it and notify them. Even a “Follow Up” option will remind the user to follow up on specific emails. 

  • Shared Photo Library on iCloud. 

The Shared Photo Library on iCloud allows five people or accounts to access the shared iCloud library. Intelligent photo-sharing allows users to directly share photos in the shared library when they take pictures with others. Users can find these shared photos in their Featured Photos and Memories. 

The Apple Developer Program has released the first iOS beta mode today. But is available to only ADP members. It will be made public starting next month, July 2023.
