Install an Anti-Virus
If your MacBook doesn’t have an anti-virus, I will recommend that you get one as soon as possible. Most Mac users don’t bother to install anti-malware software because of its reputation. There is a general misconception that Mac is immune to all sorts of computer malware and can never catch a virus.
These statements are just misconceptions because just link any other device Mac can also catch computer viruses. It is true that Mac is not as vulnerable as Windows PC, but you still need to install an anti-virus on it. Just because there are low chances of your PC being infected by a virus doesn’t mean that it won’t catch any.
It is strictly advised that you purchase an Anti-virus program for your MacBook and keep it running all the time. That way, you will be able to identify dangerous files and can get rid of them instantly. You can also go for a free anti-virus if you don’t want to invest in one.

Run Disk Utility
A hard drive is one of the most important components of any computing device. If you want to ensure that your Mac’s hard drive is healthy and won’t cause any problems in the near future, then you will have to run disk utility from time to time.
Disk utility is an application that comes pre-installed on your Mac, and you can find it in you’re “Applications” folder. You can run Disk Utility five to six times a year to protect your disk.
Disk utility has the following two functions:
- It repairs disk permissions
- Repairs the disk itself
The second feature can be used only in the recovery mode, and you can access it by holding the CMD + R button while booting in recovery.
Change the Energy Saving Preferences
Protecting the health of your Mac’s battery is also crucial. You can keep your Mac’s battery healthy by customizing the energy-saving settings.
These preferences allow you to schedule the following:
- Sleep time for your MacBook
- Hard drive spin
- Display timings
- Other power saving options
How you consume your Mac’s battery impacts its overall health. If you are not using an energy saver and are using your device with max power 24×7, then you are more likely to drain its health. It is recommended that you use a battery saver when you are using it for entertainment so that you can prolong its life.
Update Your Software
If you bought a MacBook just a few days ago, then you can skip on this one. However, if you have been using it for a while, I will recommend you to update its software regularly from time to time.
Apple devices usually send you a notification when an update is available. If you cannot update it right away, make sure to set a reminder for later. It is recommended that you don’t wait too long if the update is available. The updates will fix any bugs your device might be experiencing and will provide it protection.
