Impact Of Artificial Intelligence On Our Future

Ever since the term ‘Artificial Intelligence’ was coined, people desperately wanted to know what it could do in real life. Back then, it sounded like magic and even seemed impossible to achieve. However, human endeavor did not leave that space shallow but worked year after year, and today we are in 2024 with a completely transformed scenario.

Historical Growth Of Artificial Intelligence

1950-1970

The foundation and the base of machine learning began between 1950 and 1970. It is when the very famous and often regarded as the father of modern computers, Alan Turing, proposed a test to gauge machine intelligence.

Later in 1956, John McCarthy used the term ‘Artificial Intelligence’ at a conference, which actually highlighted things pretty much.

1970-2010

In these years, the real progression happened, but it was not an easy thing. Various AI applications were being developed, but because the concept was not completely trustworthy, developing teams faced financial issues.

The term ‘AI’ however did not lose its value, and even though not everyone supported it, things changed slowly. Around 2010, AI learning suddenly increased and there were various milestones that humans were able to achieve.

2010 – Present

Things changed completely in these years with advancements that include Google, OpenAI, and many other AI-related stuff. Now, people are able to recognize, create, and iterate things using Artificial intelligence.

Benefits That Came With ArtificiaI Intelligence

Automation

This can be described as one of the most important advantages of AI in terms of enhancing efficiency across different industries. Companies employ AI to do processes like inquiring using chatbots that answer questions more quickly and effectively. Plus, it saves time and money and makes it possible for human employees to indulge in more challenging assignments.

Data Analytics

Artificial Intelligence is very much used by companies to assess data and make different types of predictions. Basically, it could be anything, but the root reason for using AI is to understand consumer behavior and make plans according to that so as to stay tall in the market.

Improvement In User Experience

You will find various AI-driven tools today, and we are pretty sure you use them on a daily basis. For example, the face recognition system on your phone is AI-based, Siri in Apple phones is another example of AI.

These systems were introduced in various devices so that users can have a better experience and do things easily and without wasting much time and effort.

Which Industries Are Using Artificial Intelligence Today?

Healthcare Industry

Probably the most important sector of all, healthcare is an infinite loop where new things come up from time to time. A great example of this is the COVID-19 pandemic as it really shook the healthcare sector and was quite hard to battle.

Talking about AI contribution, things like medical diagnosis and surgeries are the main areas where artificial intelligence is being used nowadays. Because it can analyze big chunks of data easily, it can identify various health patterns and detect diseases early on. Furthermore, various robots are used as assists for surgeons thereby making things a bit precise and ‘unemotional’.

Retail And E-commerce Industry

Product-based companies are always looking for ways to lure potential customers. They do this in order to increase their sales and hence make a profit. And because AI can analyze data and give future predictions, various retail and E-commerce platforms are using it to understand consumer behavior.

Some of the best examples are Amazon and Flipkart. These e-commerce platforms extensively use artificial intelligence and machine learning. Primarily to understand their customer’s needs and create a better experience for them.

Stuff like product recommendations, filters, etc. all are backed with AI knowledge which seriously creates a soothing experience for anyone who visits their platform.

Marketing Industry

This is another competitive field where AI is highly used in order to improve brand exposure and earn through customer engagement. Various things can be done using AI in order to elevate a brand’s image and create more customer falls.

Content Creation is one of the basic things that can be handled quite easily with the help of AI. Even though there are many AI-detecting tools in the market these days, ChatGPT and Google Bard are constantly used for content creation.

Furthermore, stuff like data analysis, advertising, and image creation can all be done using AI, however, there are specific prompts for these commands that one needs to know.

Insurance And Finance Sector

Many things have gone digital nowadays, and that includes the finance and insurance industry as well. Now, there is no constant need for you to come to offices and submit documents or verify them, the system is all upgraded and new.

Interestingly, using AI has been a boon for this industry. Because not only does it save a lot of time for them but also saves money that would have been otherwise spent on manual workers.

Also, AI can easily detect any malicious(fraud) activity in real-time thereby making things even more safe and sound. This way, both parties remain happy, that is, the customer and service provider.

Agricultural Industry

There are various AI-based machines available these days that can help ease the process of agricultural work. Also, there are tools that can analyze soil status and predict future weather conditions thereby helping farmers plant trees according to the weather.

This not only saves efforts that could go in vain but also minimizes loss as well.

Drawbacks That Came With The Disruption Of Artificial Intelligence

Lack Of Job Security

This is one of the most discussed, feared, and stressful topics that has been circulating ever since companies and organizations began using Artificial Intelligence in their day-to-day work. And why wouldn’t it be? There are many people whose careers are at stake because of the introduction of AI. And it could be possible that AI literally snatches away their position and leaves them jobless.

The issue is quite pressing because AI is being implemented almost in every sector. Be it medical, marketing, retail, or any other.

Suppose you have been working in a company for 5 years. You have gained trust, built connections, and also upskilled yourself in that course of time. But suddenly someone enters the door and completely ruins your five years of hard work. How would you feel then?

That is exactly what many people are feeling right now. And even though there is still a demand for human work, if AI upgrades even more, then there would be a serious unemployment problem everywhere.

Automated Information That Does Not Have A Human Touch

There are still many job roles that require emotional intelligence and human touch. However, using AI to fill those areas can significantly lead to losses for many organizations. The thing is, robotic information will always remain robotic, which means it will definitely lack an emotional angle.

Therefore, too much-automated information stuffing could be harmful in places where emotional intelligence is needed more and that could lead to various repercussions.

Privacy Breach

You might have heard that AI is a forever learning program and it significantly relies on previous data to make various predictions about what may happen in the future. However, when you share your personal information with AI tools, then it means you are going out of the safe zone to work your way out.

And because AI cannot distinguish between what is private to you and what is not, your privacy is always at stake and it could be leaked anytime. Hence, users must be a bit cautious when sharing personal things with AI.

Laziness Among Workers

With extensive use of AI among workers and employees, firm owners could face some serious laziness among workers. In fact, these things have begun to happen and with that people are facing more and more health issues.

In earlier times, only manual work was there. People used to walk, sit, speak, and do all sorts of activities. But now, with the rise of AI, it is seen that workers have become a bit lazy. They are not as active as they used to be before the introduction of AI.

Too Much Dependency On ArtificiaI Intelligence

This point is also close to laziness, but it has a much more severe impact on people. While organizations have started enjoying the perks of Artificial Intelligence, it is more likely that people lose some of the basic skills and are unable to perform simple tasks.

This has to be avoided at all costs. Therefore companies should have a constrained use of AI intelligence so that their workforce does not forget their primary things.

Bottom Line

Although AI has served to be a boon for the world. It cannot be denied that there are many drawbacks latched to it as well. Predictions say that there is going to be an increased usage of AI in the coming years because it basically saves a lot of money and time for companies. But that simply means an increased ratio of unemployed people and therefore stress.

Only time will tell what is going to happen. We all hope that things stay cool for everyone so that people do not stress out too much and start condemning the use of Artificial Intelligence.
