If you’ve been looking to upgrade your laptop/computer to Windows 10, the time is now. Microsoft no longer provided support for Windows 7 for almost a year now, and Microsoft is planning to preach the upgrades to Windows 10 to keep the existing devices running with full security and with smoothness especially before the arrival of Windows 11 later in 2023 this year.
Keeping in mind the current scenario Windows 11 will be made available to anyone as a free upgrade for Windows 10 users whose system is eligible for the upgrade. Anything prior to Windows 10 operating systems will not be eligible for the free upgrade.
You can check whether your system is eligible for the free upgrade and if you can download Windows 11 when it’s available:
Step 1: Visit Microsoft’s official website
Step 2: Hover the mouse to Windows 11 tab on the upper right corner
Step 3: Click Windows 11 requirement
Step 4: It will prompt you to download the PC Health Check application
Step 5: Click on Download and run the tab
Step 6: When the process finishes it will display the message whether your system is compatible with Windows 11 or not
If your PC or laptop is old and still runs on Windows 7, you can simply purchase Windows 10 Home from Microsoft’s official website for $140. If you are short on cash and don’t want to spend unnecessarily to upgrade to Windows 10: Microsoft has provided a free upgrade that was originally exhausted in 2016 and is still available to download.
The new version of Windows is only a few months away, so it is advisable to upgrade to the latest available version to stand eligible for any upcoming updates.
While introducing Windows 10 in 2015, Microsoft showcased a nice gesture by providing a free upgrade offer for Windows 7 and 8 users, till the month of July 2016. But back in 2017, it was reported by Microsoft that the free upgrade tool was still functional.
We tried it out in November 2020 and were able to upgrade a 2014 Lenovo Desktop as well as laptop from Windows 7 Pro to Windows 10 Pro. As of August 2023, people are still able to get the free upgrade and it’s working just fine for them as well.
Upgrading your operating system is not limited to just new features. Windows 7 users who opted out of upgrading to the latest version did not receive any of Microsoft’s security updates fixes, or technical support for any issues, leaving their device on the verge of having viruses and malware.
Although users of Windows 10 have encountered a huge number of bugs over the years, upgrading is the only solution to keep your computer/laptop safe. With that said more and more users are upgrading their system operating system: Windows 10 now has more than 1.3 billion active users in the whole wide world.
if you’re currently a user of a licensed and activated copy of Windows 7, Windows 8, or Windows 8.1 Home or Pro:
You should keep in mind that if you have a Windows 7 or 8 Home version, you can only update to Windows 10 Home, while Windows 7 or 8 Pro can only be updated to Windows 10 Pro.
