Unfortunately, many of these internet connections are hindered by problems caused by disconnections. Thankfully, there are solutions to fix it.

The Arris Router is a two-in-one high-speed internet-connected device that connects your home network to all cable providers. When looking for the best router, you want to use most of your high gigabit internet speeds and have consistent connections with the many devices in your home or office. And if you’re looking for the best modem and router combination, dual-band Wi-Fi speeds from your home internet providers are a must.

However, due to connectivity issues, many people need help with their Arris routers. This issue inevitably causes several problems, from difficulty streaming online services to difficulty communicating through a mesh network. This blog will look at solutions to fix the Arris Router that keeps dropping the connection.

Possible Reasons For Arris Router Dropping Connections Issue

The most common reason your Arris Router keeps dropping connections is likely due to the weak strength of your Wi-Fi hotspot. Nonetheless, below are the many other reasons for your Arris router network outage issue –

  • One of the modem parts is broken or damaged.
  • The Ethernet cable attached to the modem is not connected correctly or is defective.
  • Slow internet speed from your ISP (Internet Service Provider).
  • Objects (thick walls, wireless devices, other networks in the same house that operate on different bandwidths, etc.) are blocking or interfering with the signal from the modem.
  • Insufficient Wi-Fi hotspot strength.
  • An unauthorized person is trying to force their way into your system.
  • You need to update your modem’s firmware.
  • Connecting to the network without the Admin’s permission and valid password.
  • The network is congested either from your ISP or because multiple devices are connected to the same modem.
  • Modems can also be accidentally disconnected if not placed within the router’s range.
  • Overloaded network
  • Local area power outage.
  • OS bug.

How To Fix Arris Router When It Keeps Dropping Connection Issues?

Adjust the Arris Modem Control Panel

If your Arris Router is facing the issue of dropping connections, one of the many solutions to try is to enter and connect the Arris Modem Control Panel. Here’s the process to do so.

  • Connect your PC or mobile phone to the Arris network (Wi-Fi) or via an Ethernet connection.
  • Launch your internet browser and type in the following address – https://192.168.0.1.
  • Now, log in using the default credential, i.e., Admin and password.

If the default Arris login credentials do not work, you should call your ISP provider instead.

When you understand how to enter the Arris Modem Control Panel, it will be easy to perform most of the solutions to fix the Arris Router dropping connections issue. With that, let’s move and look into other resolutions to troubleshoot the connectivity issues.

Check the signal level of the cable (Ethernet cable).

Sudden signals or connection droppings are frustrating as you cannot do anything properly on time. Such issues can often be a result of unspecified signal ranges. If your Ethernet cable is not within the set signal range, your Arris router may drop connection anytime. You can check the signal level range on the Arris web browser. To bring the signal level to the desired range, you can perform a power cycle, a factory reset, or get help from the experts from Arris. The Arris router’s downstream signal range is from -15 dBmV to +15 dBmV.

Shift The Wi-Fi Channel.

Using the Wi-Fi on the wrong channel can cause sudden connection drops. Most Arris router has a 2.4 GHz bandwidth. If there is interference, you will lose connection. If you connect most of your home devices, say, Smart TV, laptops, smartphones, and other electronic WiFi-enabled devices, to the Router, all those should be placed close to the router. But if you still encounter signal drops, try shifting the Wi-Fi channel to 5 from the previous 2.4 GHz. That helps with a better stable connection with reduced signal interference to the router.

Hard Reset The Arris Router/Modem.

While most technical issues or errors can be fixed with a normal reset or reboot, a hard reset discharges all the active activities and settings. After a hard reset, everything will be in default mode when you restart your Arris router the next time. Below are the steps to perform a hard reset on any device –

  • Turn off your Arris router and modem.
  • After some time, unplug the power adapter from the source and wait for a few minutes.
  • Now, replay the power adapters again in their places securely and adequately.
  • Now, switch on the device again and text the network connection.
  • If the connection is unstable and drops repeatedly, try it out on several other devices. That will ensure the issue is with the device or the router itself.

Check the Cable Connections.

Among the many troubleshooting steps to fix the dropping connections issue of your Arris router, reviewing the cable configuration is also a wise idea. Many times, after constant usage and high pressure, cables snap and cause outages or other unwanted errors. While checking the cables, you should specifically focus on the Ethernet cable between the router and the modem.

If the cables are charred, you will have to replace them. However, fixing them is better, if possible.

  • Unplug the cables and clean the ports appropriately.
  • Ensure that the cables are not under high pressure or over-tightly secured.
  • Tighten the wires in connection to the ports.
  • Look for visual damage on the cables.
  • Try switching the ends of the Ethernet cable.
  • Adjust the power adaptor for stronger connectivity if a loose cable connection is an issue.
  • Replace the damaged cables as soon as possible.

Update Network Security.

You can also attempt to update your router’s network security. This is necessary to prevent access to unwanted users on your network connectivity and unwanted connection manipulation in harmful ways that can consume high bandwidth. When you update the password or network security, you heighten the connection accessibility to only authorized and trusted users.

If you don’t know how to update your router’s network security, follow the steps mentioned here:

  • First, enter the Arris Control Panel and log in as Admin.
  • Now, navigate to the Security Tab.
  • There, change the Wi-Fi credentials, preferably the password.
  • After confirming the action, click on Exit.

After a network security update, any device previously connected to your Arris router will be disconnected. For reconnection, the new password must be entered for all those devices.

Set a strong Wi-Fi password.

Unauthorized access to private Wi-Fi connections is not new. But, such events are often the reason for connection droppings. That might be your reason, too, if your Arris Wi-Fi password needs to be stronger. Unwanted access to your internet is not only a sign of a weak password but is also dangerous, as it can result in data theft and misuse. To prevent such events from happening and to resolve them if they have already occurred, you should change the Wi-Fi password through the router settings. As the error is fixed, you can use your Wi-Fi connection stably.

Reduce Network Usage.

If you connect too many devices to your router, that would significantly minimize the device’s performance. As such, the bandwidth limit will be restricted and lowered. Reduced bandwidth on your Wi-Fi network will considerably increase if multiple connected devices’ seeding, uploading, and downloading activities are high. If that is the cause for dropped connections, you can conduct an internet speed test on your Arris router.

Here are a few ways to reduce network usage on your router.

  • Reconnect the devices that are not in use to prevent over-usage unnecessarily.
  • Disable any location-altering or VPN services if active.
  • When testing the internet speed connection, refrain from uploading and downloading activities.
  • Perform proper virus and malware scanning in case of large bandwidth consumption.

When you employ all these tips, you can attempt another speed test on your router for connection speed and signal strength.

Factory Reset the Modem.

If trying every applicable method to your Arris router did not solve the dropping connections issue, you can also try factory resetting the modem. Doing so will restore the firmware’s default configuration. Follow the steps below to factory reset the modem.

  • Find the reset button on the modem’s back.
  • Use a sturdy and thin object to press the button.
  • Press the button for a few seconds or until you see the modem light blinking rapidly.
  • You can now release the button and wait.
  • It will take a few minutes for the modem reset to be complete. Once that is done, you can switch on the router and test the internet performance.

Update the Router Firmware.

You can update the device’s firmware by going to the Arris modem Control Panel.

  • First, enter the Arris modem Control Panel.
  • Now, navigate to the More tab.
  • Go to Driver and Firmware Update.
  • Under it, click on Routers.
  • From the options, choose the latest firmware.
  • If a new version is available, download it and install the firmware.

When the new firmware is installed, reboot the router. As the device is online again, test the connection for network outages.
