Bob Johnson, Charlotte Bobcats owner and founder of
BET said what others, including Geraldine Ferraro, who had to disassociate herself from the
Hillary campaign over the liberal "progressive" (*) blogosphere's push
back, have been labeled racist for saying. Bob Johnson, who incidentally
is black, said Barack Obama would not be the Democratic party's candidate
for president if he was white.
(*) There is no progressive blogosphere. The blogosphere is viral amateurism for wannabe writers, a place and software means for InterNUT neophytes to circulate their bad ideas. They're not seeking truth; they're seeking mutual affirmation and to have their egos stroked.
"What I believe Geraldine Ferraro meant is that if you take a freshman
senator from Illinois called `Jerry Smith' and he says I'm going to
run for president, would he start off with 90 percent of the black
vote?" Johnson said. "And the answer is, probably not... ." (Jim Morrill - 4/15/08 - Charlotte
Bobcats owner Bob Johnson talks with
Charlotte Observer)
"Geraldine Ferraro said it right. The problem is, Geraldine Ferraro is white. This campaign has such a hair-trigger on anything racial ... it is almost impossible for anybody to say anything." (Morrill)
Johnson also said Hillary Clinton has her coalition of women and white working class Democrats and what we all know to be Obama's strength, "white liberals" and "African-Americans."
I'm going to have to rethink my position as a white liberal. I am with
working-class Democrats but I will not be voting for Obama even if he gets
the nomination because for many reasons, already defined in the Crypt
(
http://pnews.org/crypt/) and because of Obama's vehement objection to
having my vote counted in the primary election in Florida.
Hillary favors a revote. The decision to have the primary earlier in Florida was the decision of the state legislature, not the Democratic party. My vote doesn't count and since it doesn't count I can't reconcile throwing it away on someone clearly as undemocratic as Barack Obama.
